Pip was carrying berries he got from from Pearl's Corner Market when he noticed something.
The bench by the river was empty.
It wasn't unusual. But it felt different somehow.
Pip stopped and looked for a moment.
The river flowed past Birch Grove.
Leaves drifted in the breeze.
The bench waited quietly beside the water.
Sometimes good things start with noticing what others walk past.
Pip decided to sit for a while.
He set his basket beside him and listened to the river.
Nothing special was happening.
The water moved. The leaves drifted.
The town carried on.
But the bench didn't feel quite as lonely anymore.
Sometimes small actions can change a place.
Before long, Mello arrived on her flower basket bike.
Then, Skye wandered over carrying another invention he was making that wasn't quite done yet.
None of the friends had made plans. Nobody had sent invitations.
Nobody needed to.
They simply sat together.
The river flowed. The breeze moved through the trees.
And somehow, that was enough.
The town carried on around them.
Pearl stocked the market. Neighbors walked the paths.
The mountain watched over Branch Bay.
And on a bench beside the river, three friends spent an ordinary afternoon together.
Nothing big happened. No problems were solved. No adventures were planned.
But sometimes the most important moments begin with something small.
A choice to sit down.
Because good things, like friendship, start by noticing.
